The Village of Schilller Park, Illinois is located in Cook County 13 miles west of the Chicago loop. The village was incorporated in 1914 and was originally named Kozy. In 1926 the village name was changed to Schiller Park. The name came from a local singing group called Schiller Liedertafel who frequently entertained in the area. The land here was originally owned by Alexander Robinson who was known for his successful treaty negotiations. Today Schilller Park has around 12,000 residents.
There ae a number of interesting historical sites in this small town. Visitors may want to stop by the Historic Great Escape Restaurant. The bar here was built in 1889 and this was the location of many silent movies created by Tom Mix in the 1900’s. It is said that crime boss Al Capone used The Great Escape as his headquarters. The owners say they offer great food in casual class. History enthusiasts may also want to learn about The Schiller Park Historical Commission. The Commission maintains historical artifacts about the area at The Schriller Park Public Library. The library is on Old River Road and is open year round. If you are looking to head outdoors you can visit one of the 7 parks in the village including the Anna Montana Memorial Pool.
